Oh summer, how I adore thee. Look, don’t get me wrong autumn, winter and spring, I love you guys too but summer, with its clouds of cow parsley and lime-tree scented air is something special. Yes, it may sound incongruous that I, longtime London resident and editor of a local London magazine, am busy waxing lyrical about nature but the truth is, this city has an abundance of green space. And boy do us Londoners know how to make the most of it when the sun shines.

Indeed, when I bore my colleagues with my run updates, they oft imagine I’m pounding the graffitiriddled streets of gritty East London when, in fact, my five mile loop takes me past lakes, through forest and over grassland. And when I lived in Stoke Newington, I counted a herd of deer as neighbours. One of the joys of this great capital of ours is its many parks and gardens which is why, this issue, we’ve rounded up the best al fresco venues across the city for those planning summer nuptials (or since many offer all-weather facilities, outdoor celebrations in any season). Turn to page 29 to find out more.

And if you’re looking to bring the outside in, well why not checkout our guide to decorating any venue with flowers on page 65.

We’ve also got a host of inspirational features to help you plan your big day from start to finish – from the rather fabulous Labyrinth-inspired shoot on page 57 to our stationery special (page 71) to a host of real weddings (starting on page 36).

Glasshouse on The Lock

Spread over three levels, the Glasshouse on the Lock boasts floor-to-ceiling windows (as its name suggests) that make the most of the venue’s prime position in Camden Town, granting expansive views over the market and Regent’s Canal. Indeed, this contemporary venue is a local landmark and sits at the heart of the action of this bustling tourist spot, which should please out-of-town guests and London locals alike, not to mention your photographer who will no doubt whisk you off post vows to take some quirky ‘just married’ shots among the stalls.

The venue can accommodate ceremonies for up to 150 guests, while the upper floors are ideal for receptions for up to 200 loved ones.
