January/February 2019

Yes, it’s customary to make resolutions at this time of year but I’ve never believed in them. I say, this year, why not resolve to enjoy yourself more and worry a bit less? Certainly, our hen and stag do special will help you do just that – there’s nothing like gathering your bessies and having a shindig to lift the mood. Turn to page 75 to read more.

Whether you’re just starting out on your wedding planning journey or you’re nearing the end, it’s important to make time for you along the way. Last year, I made precisely no resolutions as per usual but as spring approached, I did find the energy and motivation I needed to spend a little more time on me. I took up running, I dedicated a lot more time to my passions and hobbies and I enjoyed it thoroughly – read about it in our self-care special on page 69.

We’ve also got a spectacular set of real weddings for you this issue from Katy and Matt’s relaxed Hackney affair to a gorgeous Greenwich do, starting on page 46.

And as December is a popular time of year for engagements, no doubt many of you will be embarking on the venue hunt – look no further than our venues section on page 23.

Happy planning!

Georgina

St Ermin's Hotel

Long known as the ‘wedding cake hotel’ thanks to its opulent original white Rococo plasterwork, this Grade II listed building couldn’t be a more appropriate venue for the biggest day of your life.

On arrival, guests will be wowed by the lush, tree-lined courtyard and equally impressive lobby with its dramatic sweeping staircase and unusual curved mezzanine, and that’s before they’ve entered any of the breath-taking ceremony spaces on offer. Take the Crystal Ballroom and Cloisters Suite, for example – seating from 60 up to 150 guests, its eponymous crystal chandelier and extravagant plasterwork is a sight to behold. The Crystal Mezzanine, which opens up onto the ballroom, meanwhile, is ideal for more intimate celebrations of up to 50 nearest and dearest. The same spaces can host receptions too, or why not use a combination of all three? For al fresco affairs, the recently restored garden and pretty outdoor terrace are ideal – while foodie guests will delight in the produce grown in the rooftop kitchen garden – the hotel even boasts its own urban bee colony.
