September is always a milestone – the end of summer (sigh) but yet full of promise as, for me at least, it will forever be associated with the start of a school year. Yes, even though I left full-time education a good decade ago (ahem, OK, it may be a teeny bit more than a decade), I’ve never quite shaken off the new-pencil-case-promise of this month. And now, with my daughter poised to start her reception year, I’ve been transported back there all over again.
Schools aside, September is a significant milestone in the bridal and fashion industries too. The end of a wedding season and the start of Fashion Week, as the calendar page turns, our thoughts are always on the next big thing. That’s why it’s become our custom to dedicate our September/October issue to the latest bridal looks. And this number is no exception – turn to page 71 to start browsing an incredible 20 pages of big-day dresses and accessories.
And if your dress is already sorted – well never fear, because we’ve got – count ’em – three stunning real weddings (page 44), three venues features (page 19) and a catering special to boot (page 65). You can thank us later!

St Ermin's Hotel
Long known as the ‘wedding cake hotel’ thanks to its opulent original white Rococo plasterwork, this Grade II listed building couldn’t be a more appropriate venue for the biggest day of your life.
On arrival, guests will be wowed by the lush, tree-lined courtyard and equally impressive lobby with its dramatic sweeping staircase and unusual curved mezzanine but let’s hope they don’t use up their supply of gasps before entering one of the breath taking ceremony spaces on offer. Take the Crystal Ballroom and Cloisters Suite, for example – seating from 60 up to 150 guests, its eponymous crystal chandelier and extravagant plasterwork is a sight to behold. The Crystal Mezzanine, which opens up onto the ballroom, meanwhile, is ideal for more intimate celebrations of up to 50 nearest and dearest. The same spaces can host receptions too, or why not use a combination of all three? For al fresco affairs, the newly restored garden and pretty outdoor terrace are ideal – while foodie guests will delight in the produce grown in the rooftop kitchen garden – the hotel even boasts its own urban bee colony.
