July/August 2019

I’m well known among my friends, families and colleagues for being a total softie – even after almost seven (yikes!) years in this job, I still regularly tear up when I read a good real wedding story and I’ve been known to sob at videos. Aimee and Sam are a case in point – when their videographer Holly Cassidy (hollycassidyweddings.co.uk) sent me a link to their reel, I was in bits. To find out more about their big day, turn to page 44 – I’d advise you to buy shares in tissues right about now as, as I write, we’re a week away from my little bro’s wedding. All the feels.

It’s also currently raining cats and dogs out there – so much for summer, so I’m hoping that by the time you read this the weather will have improved, all the better for those al fresco celebrations. Indeed, if you’re planning an outdoors wedding, we’ve rounded up London’s best terraces, gardens and rooftops on page 33. Or check out our pick of venues in Southwark, Camden and Islington on page 19.

One thing that always strikes me as I’m treading the pavements to seek out new spaces is how different each little pocket of London can be. So much so that we asked the city’s cakemakers for their take on the capital’s quirks over on page 63. Be warned, this feature may make you hungry for cake...

Happy planning!

The Brewery

Housed in the buildings of Whitbread’s 18th century beer-making enterprise and accessed via a secluded entrance set back from the lively Chiswell Street, The Brewery’s cobbled courtyard and historic architecture provide a welcome contrast to the surrounding contemporary City structures.

Ceremonies can take place in either The Porter Tun, which can accommodate an impressive 900 guests and boasts an antique wooden floor or The King George III space, where 400 loved ones can enjoy the exposed brickwork, lanterns and barrel-vaulted ceiling. More modest parties can be held in the Queen Charlotte room, which boasts a capacity of 200, or the light and airy Sugar Rooms where 120 friends and family can witness your vows. In addition to the above spaces, receptions can be held in the outside courtyard.
