January/February 2021

Well, 2020 was a year we won’t forget in a hurry! I know we’re not out of the woods, but I feel like as we wake up to a new year, blinking into the January light, there’s renewed hope and excitement for the future. I bought myself two new outfits for weddings I had in the diary last year, which have been left hanging in the wardrobe, and I’m quietly confident I’ll get to pull them out in 2021!

So how are you finding wedding planning during a pandemic? I know it’s been a tough ride, but I hope the fact that Your London Wedding has been here, celebrating the best of the capital’s wedding industry, has helped. We will always bang the drum for local indie businesses, they’ve weathered the storm and supported their couples throughout, now’s the time to support them in return.

For those of you who are newly engaged over the festive period and Valentine’s Day – congratulations and welcome! We’ve got an epic issue for you, including venue styling tips for those whose plans have changed dramatically (page 55), a round-up of beautiful venues in East London (page 19), and styled shoots from the most talented wedding creatives in the city (pages 47 and 51). We love to showcase reader weddings (from page 30), so get in touch if you’d like to see yours featured!

Weddings at Queen Mary

Opened by Queen Victoria in 1887, this Grade II listed building was once known as the Albert Hall of East London. Built in Neo- Classical style with columns and a portico, visitors step inside to find an atmospheric space with book-lined walls and busts of eminent authors under a beautiful domed ceiling. Parties can spill outside to enjoy the Queen’s Lawn and its Victorian clocktower, as well as the Regent’s Canal running alongside. The secluded Courtyard in the middle of the Queen’s building provides peace and tranquility.

Intimate ceremonies are held in the Senior Common Room (100 guests), an exclusive-use private member’s club. For a more opulent celebration, The Octagon is the perfect choice. The former university library, its domed ceiling reaches three storeys high and the endless books provide a wonderful backdrop for photos. The round space is perfect for creatively set ceremonies.
