May/June 2020

As I type, weddings are prohibited and no one knows when these restrictions will be lifted, which makes these worrying and difficult times for couples who had planned to wed this summer. While we wait, we’re here to help on two counts: first, advice for those who need to postpone or revisit their plans (turn to page 94 to read wise words from London suppliers) and, second, an escape from all that worry – after all, they can’t cancel our dreams.

And on that note, we’ve got plenty of inspiration for those of you still in the planning stages – from the glorious real weddings featured on page 26 to two beautiful shoots (pages 75 and 80).

And while our favourite London haunts may be shuttered for the time being, we can show our solidarity with words – we’ve featured some of our top spaces on page 15; many are offering virtual tours too – so click through to their websites and explore at your leisure. In the meantime, stay home, stay safe and love fiercely.

Chelsea Old Town Hall

This recently renovated Grade II* listed building has stood witness to many iconic couplings in its time. Choose between one of three rooms on the registrar’s side: The Harrington Room – a simple and elegant location for small parties of eight nearest and dearest; The Rosetti Room where up to 12 loved ones can witness your vows and The Brydon Room, where some 38 friends and family can look on as you say ‘I do’.

On the venues side, larger parties can be accommodated in the Cadogan Suite, a charming space that can seat up to 77 attendees, or the Small Hall, known for its ornate fireplace, can accommodate a maximum of 150 invitees and the capacious Main Hall, with its vaulted ceilings and marble columns, has room for 360 ceremony guests or 180 for a wedding breakfast – and its sprung wooden floor makes it ideal for dancing!
