The Fitzrovia Chapel
Few venues are as captivating as the Fitzrovia Chapel for hosting weddings, celebrations or civil partnerships. Nestled in the heart of London, this intimate and exquisite Grade II-listed building, once the chapel for the Middlesex Hospital, radiates grace, beauty, history and Gothic charm.
Couples can exchange their vows beneath the stunning golden ceiling, adorned with hundreds of stars. The chapel’s architect, John Loughborough Pearson, famously asked himself with each design, “Does it send you to your knees?” The breathtaking mosaics, marble and stained glass certainly fulfil that vision, creating a wedding atmosphere that feels both personal and cinematic.
The venue is a secular space, meaning that religious ceremonies, blessings or music are not permitted. While they do not offer a formal wedding package, the chapel provides a blank canvas for couples to craft their own unique experience, all while adhering to the registrar’s guidelines and the building’s restrictions.
The setting can accommodate 78 seated guests. The rental fee includes hire of the chairs, LED candles, glasses, a drink service and a wedding poster. For smaller gatherings of up to six people, there’s an elopement offer available.
A typical two-hour hire allows for half an hour of setup by suppliers, followed by a 30-minute pre-ceremony interview with the registrar for civil ceremonies. Guests are welcome to arrive 30 minutes before the ceremony begins, which itself runs for about 20 minutes, and couples have an additional 40 minutes afterwards for drinks and photographs. For those seeking a longer experience, the chapel staff is happy to discuss extended hire times.
It’s important to note that the chapel rental does not include the registrar’s fee, which couples arrange separately through the Westminster Registration Service.
