Alex and Audrey's mutual friends were plotting to introduce them some five years ago when serendipity intervened. A chance meeting in the street saw the couple click and a first date followed. “We went to see a musical in Soho and it wasn't great so we snuck out half way through and went for a drink. The rest is history,” Audrey declares.
Two years later, both were considering taking things one step further. “We both came up with the same idea to propose at exactly the same time on our second anniversary. We worked on two totally different plans, then at some point I found out what Audrey was up to and we had to come clean to one another. We ended up designing the rings together and going for a romantic trip to Barcelona,” explains Alex. It took the couple a year to plan their summer do. Here, they tell us more about their big day…
We both wore blue suits and white shirts with different accessories – Alex had blue braces and tie, Audrey wore yellow bow tie and yellow braces.
We loved the fact that the venue was all white and there were
no decorations, furniture or other unnecessary distractions. It
was like a blank canvas. It also had a roof terrace with views
over Shoreditch, and we’d always dreamed of getting married
in the open air.
We decorated the dining area with flowers from New Covent Garden Market, and the ceremony space – which was later converted to a lounge – with festoon lights, flowers, balloons and candles. We wanted to keep the decorations simple.
We didn't translate our theme or colours into the cakes, but instead asked our helpers to make a few cakes in our favourite flavours, such as chocolate and honey.
