Looking after number one

Looking after number one: Image 1

Today is the start of National Self Care Week and with all the stresses of wedding planning and every day life it's always good to take some me time.

Psycotherapist Jane Barnfield Jukes advises, "Of course sometimes we feel lost. At times of extreme stress and change we can feel that the landscape of our lives have altered to such an extent that we can no longer find our bearings. This is merely a stress response.

"The truth is that many things in our lives at this important juncture are about to change. Start as you mean to go on by embracing the changes that are bound to occur when you embark on your new life as a married couple. You may find practicing mindfulness and meditation (just a few minutes a day) will have a remarkable impact on your ability to stay grounded.

"Wherever you are in the planning process it only takes two minutes to download a mindfulness or meditation app, try Calm or Headspace. Or simply schedule time your diary to pause your busy life, to just be with yourself and get away from it all. You will feel much better with a bit of distance.

"Look after yourself now, learn how to stay centred so when you feel like you are losing yourself you will know exactly where to look."
