With a second royal wedding on the horizon for 2018, even more so than usual, all things wedding are hot news.
Looking into what's on trend and what's not, new research from jewellery insurance provider Protect Your Bubble UK has revealed the latest trends for Brits on their big day.
The findings show that there's been a 55% drop in church weddings in the last five years compared to 40 or more years ago. Despite this downward trend, some wedding traditions have been making a comeback, including tossing the bridal bouquet, up 94% in the last five years as well as brides being given away by their dad (+71%).
The research also showed demand for diamond engagement rings has soared in the last five years, rising 145% compared to five to 10 years ago, while there's been a sharp decline in the number of couples expecting the bride's parents to cough up for the cost of the wedding and those choosing to live separately up until the big day day - both down 68% and 78% respectively over the same period.
Other traditions that appear to be on the rise include the groom not seeing the bride on the big day (up 41%) and the bride wearing a veil (up 12%), while the number of couples incorporating something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue into their celebration saw a slight uplift of 6%.
