Cecilia Ross' 6 skincare tips for a long haul flight

Skincare products

Dull, grey, dry 'plane skin' is something we are all likely to have experienced. Below, Facialist & Skincare Expert, Cecilia Ross provides her 6 simple tips to help your skin survive on a long haul flight.

1) Go make-up free
We can easily transfer bacteria from our hands to our faces. When we add make-up into the mix that isn't then cleansed off, this can wreak havoc with our skin and cause breakouts. As soon as you're on the plane its recommended to remove your make-up as thoroughly as possible. A double cleanse that removes make-up and balances your skin's PH balance is ideal. Many brands produce mini's which are ideal for taking onboard and it's a great chance to use your time onboard wisely and kick start your holiday with self-care.

2) Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate
On a flight when your skin is prone to dryness, its recommended to add a moisturising hyaluronic based gel or serum, to provide your skin with the moisture it needs without using anything too heavy which could clog the pores.

3) SPF- yes even on the flight!
Many of us forget to apply SPF on the way to our sun drenched destination, but did you know SPF is just as important on the flight as it is when you land. UV radiation can be just as high as when they are at ground level, so ensure you apply a good quality SPF 50.

4) Create your own spa
Now you're in holiday mode, it's a great time to relax as much as possible and enjoy the journey by creating your own spa like experience on the plane! Give yourself a mini facial by taking the time to apply a hydrating sheet mask, setting the mood with essential oils, and enjoying a deep clean with a luxurious cleanser. You could even plug in a meditation or relaxing playlist to take your spa experience that one step further for maximum relaxation.

5) Consider what you're eating & drinking
Hydrate from within by choosing water, or fruit infused water such as lemon, cucumber or watermelon which can jazz up your water choice. When it comes to food choices, pick items with high water content which will also help combat dehydration.

6) Post flight cleanse
Now you need to focus on rejuvenating your skin by focusing on fighting breakouts, as well as rehydrating the skin. Cleanse your face as soon as you reach the hotel or even better right after landing. If you're prone to breakouts and have oily skin, its recommended to apply a salicylic acid after cleansing. Then apply a hyaluronic based moisturiser, and of course SPF 50.
