The Golden Hinde

The Golden Hinde was the Tudor warship in which Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the world in 1577 - 1580, then defeated the Spanish in the battle of Armada. Our reconstruction, a fully working ship, was launched in Devon in 1973. Since then she too has sailed over 140,000 miles round the world - more than the original. She is now berthed in St Mary Overie Dock, London, in the middle of historic Southwark, only a short walk from the Clink Prison Museum and Shakespeare's Globe

Overlooking the River Thames, with sweeping views over Chelsea Embankment Gardens and onto the iconic Albert Bridge, the dining rooms and bar can be used for ceremonies and receptions alike.The picturesque and photogenic restaurant is the ideal location for intimate nuptials, followed by sophisticated receptions with thoughtfully catered food and drink options overseen by executive chef Iain Smith. Government changes outdoor wedding restrictions

One thing the pandemic has highlighted is the archaic wedding laws couples are still governed by; and although this was due to be revised in government in the next year or two, MPs have decided to bring forward a change in outdoor weddings. From 1st July to 30th April 2022, couples can tie the knot outside without the restrictions of it having to take place under a permanent licensed structure, ie, a gazebo or pagoda. This is a much needed boost for wedding venues with booking in the next nine months and are having to adhere to social distancing requirements and outdoor weddings being preferable.... read more
