Where did your journey into wedding cake creation begin?
Since I can remember, the passion in my life has always been food and cooking. So back in 2014, when it became clear that a corporate career wasn't for me, I took a leap of faith, quit my job and enrolled at the Corden Bleu culinary school in London. I trained for a year, learned from the best in the industry, and fell in love with everything about patisserie. Soon after graduating, a friend asked if I would make her wedding cake. That was where my cake journey truly began. I quickly realised that combining my patisserie skills with limitless creative freedom was my vocation in life, and soon after Deluce Cakes was born. The cakes have evolved dramatically over the years, but I still get as much joy out of making each individual cake as I did that very first one.

Meet Laura of London cake designer Deluce Cakes: Image 2 What's your favourite thing about working in the wedding industry?
Every couple is different, and so is every wedding, and so is every cake! Each project is completely unique, so it never gets boring.

What's your favourite cake design to date and why?
It was one of the first cakes I ever made, and remains one of my favourites. We make a lot of grand elaborate cakes for big weddings, but to me there is something so elegant about this smaller cake. It's perfect for an intimate wedding, which in our newly restricted world, may be the way we celebrate marriage for a while.

What sweet treat do you turn to for comfort?
It will sound strange, but I don't have a sweet tooth - perhaps because I'm surrounded by so much cake! If I do fancy a sweet treat, a few squares of dark chocolate hits the spot.

What's your top tip for couples planning their wedding?
Enjoy the process! It's easy to get so wrapped up in the planning that it becomes stressful, and you forget what it's all about. Just take your moments to enjoy being engaged - it's a wonderful time that goes by all too quickly.
