The Ivy Market Grill’s Christmas Tree

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Covent Garden, The Ivy Market Grill offers a hidden oasis away from the city's hustle and bustle. It's a relaxed, all-day dining destination perfect for life's special moments. With Christmas fast approaching, the team has unveiled its festive campaign, The Ivy Midnight Express, featuring a set menu, a Festive À La Carte, breakfast and afternoon tea. Each offering has been carefully crafted by the talented executive chefs, emphasising seasonal and festive ingredients. From comforting classics to refined celebratory dishes, the menu caters to every type of festive occasion. Naturally, I was thrilled to try the set menu when invited by the team, along with my partner.

Setting the Scene
Inspired by the story of Arthur, a young boy whose Christmas Eve adventure helps Santa get back on track with the help of his beloved train set, The Ivy Midnight Express brings the nostalgia of festive storytelling into The Ivy's brasseries. The installations feature twinkling lights, vintage charm, and whimsical train motifs, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The Ivy Collection collaborated with artist and scenographer Sophie Neil to bring the story to life, with illustrations appearing on festive menus and across a range of retail products, including Christmas crackers, cards and more.

First Impressions
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a stunning festive display that featured the front of a train outside the restaurant alongside Christmas trees for the perfect introduction to the seasonal spirit. From the moment we stepped inside, the friendly staff welcomed us into a cosy, intimate setting, blending the signature Ivy elegance with vibrant, modern interiors. The rich colour palette, warm lighting and lively atmosphere made for an inviting and relaxed experience.

Seated at our table, we immediately explored the festive cocktails. I can't recommend the Jingle Bells from The Midnight Express menu enough! It's a delightful mix of Johnnie Walker Ruby, Bellami Cherry, lemon, white chocolate, cacao and a hint of wormwood mist. It was, without a doubt, one of the most delicious cocktails I've ever tried. For a seasonal classic with a kick, the Hot Honey Margarita, featuring Casamigos Blanco, lime, hot honey and tajín, was the perfect winter warmer.

To Dine For
For starters, I chose the Duck Liver Parfait, served with caramelised hazelnuts, red onion and cranberry chutney and toasted brioche, which was a beautifully balanced dish. For the main course, I opted for the Crisp Sea Bass Fillet with Wild Mushroom Velouté. The delicately pan-seared sea bass, paired with a silky cream sauce of foraged wild mushrooms, fresh spinach and hand-picked samphire, was expertly cooked. It paired perfectly with a side of thick-cut chips, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Dessert was impossible to resist! The Ivy Chocolate Bombe is a signature melting bombe, filled with vanilla ice cream and honeycomb, poured over with rich, warm caramel sauce at the table. It was a truly indulgent experience that hits all the right notes. We rounded off the meal with some comforting hot chocolate, taking in the beautiful setting and reflecting on such a special experience together.

The Final Verdict
Overall, our visit was nothing short of magical. Surrounded by festive décor and the joyful buzz of the season, we couldn't recommend The Ivy Market Grill more. The festive set menu is priced at £55 for two courses or £60 for three courses. In addition to its seasonal menus, The Ivy offers exclusive private dining options across its collection, each space decorated with festive installations and supported by tailored menus for corporate gatherings, family occasions and seasonal celebrations.
