Historic Royal Palaces has announced that the spectacular State Apartments at Kensington Palace are now licensed to host weddings and civil partnerships. For the first time in history, couples can now get married in the King's Gallery and King's Drawing Room, both of which are perfectly suited for princely celebrations.
The King's Gallery is licensed for evening weddings of up to 150 guests. For more intimate weddings, seating can be placed in a horseshoe shape around the fireplace with King William III's anemoscope (or painted wind-dial) providing a striking backdrop.
The King's Drawing Room was often the setting for royal parties hosted by monarchs across the centuries, and offers impressive views over the stunning palace gardens to the famous statue of Queen Victoria, making the perfect setting for a ceremony of up to 100 loved ones.
During the summer months access in both spaces is available from 6pm and in winter months from 4pm. Depending on the size of the wedding party, dinner can be accommodated in the Queen's Gallery, or the new glass-fronted Kensington Palace Pavilion, which has capacity for up to 300 guests for dinner and dancing.
Alex Donnelly-Palmer, Events and Operations Manager at Kensington Palace, says, “We are delighted to now be licensed to host weddings and civil ceremonies in the State Apartments at Kensington Palace. Both the King's Gallery and King's Drawing Room provide a and romantic setting to ensure a day to remember for couples and their friends and families.”
